Privacy policy

The short version

  • 7Z doesn’t send your files or their contents to us.
  • You don’t need an account. 7Z doesn’t ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • 7Z uses Google services for usage statistics, crash reports and ads. They collect some information about your device and how you use the app.
  • You can turn off usage statistics and personalised ads in Settings › Privacy in the app.

1. Who we are

7Z is made by Sociosoftware LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the 7Z Android app and this website use, why, and the choices you have.

This policy applies to the latest version of 7Z available on Google Play. Earlier versions of the app may collect or use information differently from what is described here. We strongly recommend that you always install the latest version of 7Z.

2. Your files

7Z works with files on your device that you choose. We don’t receive copies of your files or their contents.

7Z asks for access to your device’s storage so it can show and work with your files. You can change this at any time in Android’s settings. If you share a file from 7Z, it goes to the app or service you pick, and that service’s terms apply.

3. Archive passwords

A password you enter is used to open or create that archive. If you choose to save it, it’s kept on your device and isn’t sent to us. You can delete saved passwords at any time in Settings › Saved passwords.

4. Usage statistics and crash reports

When Usage statistics is on, 7Z uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. It’s on unless you turn it off. The information collected can include:

  • device and app details, such as device model, Android version, app version and language;
  • identifiers, such as an app-instance ID and, where available, your device’s advertising ID;
  • general location, such as country or city, worked out from your IP address;
  • how the app is used, such as which screens and features are opened;
  • details of crashes and errors, which may include the name and location of a file or folder involved.

We use this to find and fix problems and to improve 7Z. You can turn it off at any time in Settings › Privacy › Usage statistics.

5. Ads

7Z shows ads from Google AdMob. To show, measure and, where allowed, personalise ads, and to prevent fraud, Google may collect your device’s advertising ID, IP address, device information and how you interact with ads.

  • Personalised ads: turn off Settings › Privacy › Personalised ads to ask Google to limit how it uses your information for ads.
  • Consent: where the law requires it, 7Z asks for your consent before ads use your information.
  • Advertising ID: you can reset or delete it in Android’s settings.

6. Payments

Payments in 7Z are handled by Google Play. We receive confirmation from Google Play that a payment was made, but never your card or payment details.

7. Why we use information

Where laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on:

  • your consent, for ads where the law requires it, including personalised ads;
  • our legitimate interests in keeping 7Z working, fixing problems and funding it with ads, for usage statistics, crash reports and non-personalised ads;
  • our agreement with you, to provide 7Z and any payments you make.

8. Who receives information

Google receives the information described above, for the purposes above. Google’s policies explain how it uses it:

We don’t sell your personal information for money. Some US state laws treat personalised ads as “selling” or “sharing” personal information. To opt out, turn off Personalised ads in Settings › Privacy.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a merger, sale or transfer of our business.

9. International transfers

Google may process information in the United States and other countries. Where the law requires it, these transfers are protected by safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

10. Information on your device

7Z keeps your settings, pinned folders, job history and any saved passwords on your device. We don’t have access to it. Depending on your device settings, Android may include some of it in your device backup.

To delete everything 7Z keeps on your device, clear its storage in Android Settings › Apps › 7Z, or uninstall the app.

11. How long information is kept

Information collected by Google for 7Z is kept for limited periods, set by Google’s retention settings, and then deleted or anonymised. Information on your device is kept until you delete it, clear 7Z’s storage or uninstall the app.

12. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or move your information, to object to or restrict how it’s used, and to withdraw consent. The quickest controls are the switches in Settings › Privacy and clearing 7Z’s storage.

7Z doesn’t link information to your name or an account, so we may not be able to find information about you. You can still email us, and we’ll respond as the law requires. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

13. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information, but no method of storing or sending information is completely secure.

14. Children

7Z isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we’ll take appropriate steps.

15. This website

This website, 7zfilemanager.app, uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use it, such as which pages are viewed and which links bring people here. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, the link that referred you, your approximate location, and your browser and device type, and it may set cookies to do so. We don’t use this information for ads.

For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies aren’t set. You can block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings, or use Google’s browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics on all websites. Our hosting provider may also log technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver and secure this website.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. Where the law requires it, we’ll tell you about significant changes.
