Terms of use

1. Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Sociosoftware LLC (“we”, “us”), the maker of 7Z. They cover the 7Z app and this website. By installing or using 7Z you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.

You must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it, to use 7Z.

2. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use 7Z on Android devices you own or control. The app is licensed to you, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights not given to you in these terms.

Google Play’s terms also apply to how you download and update apps.

3. Your files

7Z works with files you choose. We don’t claim any rights in them, and you’re responsible for them.

• Check before you confirm. Extracting, converting, moving, renaming and deleting can change, replace or remove files.
• Keep backups. We aren’t responsible for files that are lost, overwritten, damaged or exposed, whatever the cause.
• Remember your passwords. If you forget an archive’s password, we can’t recover it or the archive’s contents. Saved passwords can be lost if you clear 7Z’s data or change devices.
• No protection is perfect. Password protection helps keep archives private, but we can’t promise that a protected archive can’t be opened by someone else.

4. Using 7Z fairly

Don’t use 7Z to:

• break the law, or anyone else’s rights, including copyright;
• open, extract or share files you aren’t allowed to access;
• interfere with the app or the services it relies on;
• copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the app, except where the law or an open-source licence allows it.

5. Ads and other services

7Z shows ads provided by third parties, and works with services run by others, such as Google Play. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content, products or services, or for how they handle your data. Their own terms and policies apply. Our Privacy policy explains what data they receive.

6. Open-source software

7Z includes open-source software. Each open-source component is covered by its own licence, which applies to that component instead of these terms where the two conflict. You can read these licences in the app, under Settings › Open-source licences. Where a licence requires it, that page also explains how to request the source code.

7. Trademarks

Names of other products and file formats that appear in 7Z or on this website belong to their owners. We use them only to say which formats 7Z works with. This doesn’t mean their owners endorse 7Z or are connected with us.

8. Changes to the app

We may change, suspend or stop offering 7Z, or any part of it, at any time. We don’t promise that 7Z will work on every device or with every file.

These terms apply to the latest version of 7Z available on Google Play. Earlier versions of the app may not include the latest fixes or may work differently from what is described here. We strongly recommend that you always install the latest version of 7Z.

9. Disclaimers

7Z is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. As far as the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and accuracy. We don’t promise that 7Z will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that it will open, create or extract any particular file correctly.

10. Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we aren’t responsible for any loss or damage that comes from using 7Z, or from not being able to use it. This includes lost or damaged files and data, and any indirect or consequential loss.

If we are found responsible anyway, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for 7Z in the 12 months before the claim. If you haven’t paid us anything, we have no liability to you, as far as the law allows.

Some laws don’t allow these limits. Where those laws apply, these terms limit our liability only as far as they allow, and nothing here takes away your rights as a consumer.

11. Indemnity

As far as the law allows, you agree to cover any claims, losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, that others bring against us because you misused 7Z or broke these terms.

12. Ending these terms

You can stop using 7Z at any time by uninstalling it. We may end or suspend your licence at any time if you break these terms. Sections 3 and 9 to 14 continue to apply after that.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled by the state and federal courts located in New Mexico, unless the law where you live gives you the right to use your local courts.

14. General

These terms and our Privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about 7Z. If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a right, we haven’t given it up. You can’t transfer your rights under these terms. We can transfer ours, for example as part of a sale of our business.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If you keep using 7Z after a change, you accept the new terms.
